About Us

Background

Founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2024, the New Zionist Movement espouses a democratic, pluralistic State of Israel co-existing alongside an independent State of Palestine.

The “Zionist Recognition for the Nakba” is a vital step towards reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. We recognize that the Nakba was an injustice suffered by the Palestinian people in 1948. Our recognition does not imply sole responsibility, nor does it absolve the Arabs of their culpability.

Leadership

The New Zionist Movement is a grass-roots organization administered by a small team of volunteers:

  • Jack Yair Edelstein, Ph.D. — PresidentJack@NewZionist.org

Dr. Jack Edelstein was born in Israel in 1955 to Auschwitz survivors whose parents and siblings were murdered in the Holocaust. Jack’s family moved to North America in 1963, and he grew up in several small towns where is father served as a Conservative Rabbi. Jack returned to Israel in 1977 and served in the IDF, spending time in the West Bank and Gaza. He returned to the US and earned graduate degrees at the University of Michigan. He currently resides in Ann Arbor.
